NOTE: the job is to lead a small team of MicroFocus COBOL programmers to
assist them and other Java J2EE Developers to totally rewrite a billing and
remittance system into a Web Reporting Portal as part of a larger project
to upgrade all the existing Web Reporting systems in the company.
Our client is in the process of buying the BEA WEBLOGIC IDE and Server
technologies. The existing system has a lot of problems wrto business rules
that produce confusing results, so a large part of the work will be REVERSE
ENGINEERING the existing system to see exactly what it is doing, validating
and/or changing these rules , and then rewiting beginning in June
General Description of job responsibilities for a SrSA:
Reporting to an Application Team Lead you will be responsible for
designing, coding, unit testing applications that the The billing and
remittance system (currently operating in a Micro Focus Cobol
environment)for the Canadian operations of the insurance industry service
provider.
ESI's systems environment includes : Client Server systems are currently
running in a Unix (HP), Oracle and Visual Basic environment. The OLTP
systems use EDI and Tuxedo. The Reporting systems are offered over a
corporate intranet and have been developed in Java and Oracle tools. The
next generation of these systems will be moving to a J2EE environment and
the Object- oriented designs will be documented in UML notation.
JOB FUNCTION/PRINCIPAL DUTIES: (Experience required - Essential and
preferred)
1. Facilitates the definition, quality assurance and implementation of
application system requirements between business users (internal and
external) and IS project teams and external partners
2. Drives decisions ensuring that business needs are prioritized,
development resources consulted and work commitments are met
3. Defines and negotiates project, goals, scope, assumptions, approach,
dependencies, technical architecture considerations
Produces project charters and detailed work plans and estimates costs
Reports status to management
4. Analyses business systems and problem logs and recommends improvements
to existing systems or business workflow
5. Accountable for the maintenance of system documentation
Instructs, directs, and quality assures the work of business systems
analysts and developers
6. Mentors and coordinates small technical teams in all aspects of business
analysis, product testing, quality assurance, time management, problem
resolution and change management
7. Work on special projects as assigned.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATIONS: (List education, travel, language requirements,
supervisory responsibility)
Requirements
· Post-secondary degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
· 5-7 years of experience in systems analysis support/development and
process development
· Expertise in systems processes analysis, relational databases,
client-server system architecture, web system architecture
· Strong team management and interpersonal skills
· Attentive to detail and work plan deadlines
· Excellent oral and written communication skills including facilitation
and presentation skills
· Knowledge of industry best practices in work planning, software testing,
gathering requirements, documenting functional specifications and software
quality assurance techniques
· Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate project deadlines
including limited travel and on call rotation
Technical Skills
· Oracle Databases, PL/SQL
· Programming: Cobol background and current Web Programming: Java, XML,
HTML, XHTML, Webshpere/ Weblogic
. Object-oriented analysis and design ( UML preferred)
Assets
·Previous experience in software development environments
·Previous Experience in Dental Insurance and/or extended health insurance
industry.
