POSITION SUMMARY:
The DCNO Operations Specialist is part of the Team responsible for the operations of the OLG's revenue generating and business enabling systems on a 5 day week.
This position is responsible for providing expertise in Data Centre Operations and Batch Scheduling Best Practices.
Initially, this position will lead a project to select an automated scheduling package, oversee the installation of the package and work with the project team to configure the OLG production batch environment within the package.
It is expected that the Operations Specialist will develop the knowledge of how all production batch jobs run, where they run, dependencies and timings. In essence, will be the IDS expert on the entire batch environment encompassing approximately 1000 distributed servers. They will be able to utilize this knowledge to better schedule batch jobs to optimize productivity, reduce contentions and streamline batch processes.
Operations Specialist will perform scheduling work and develop and maintain custom processes to be run through batch streams.
The technologies supporting the above applications include:
• OVMS, AIX, Linux and Windows operating systems
• Sybase, DB2 and SQL Server database platforms
• OLAP support for reporting including but not exclusive to Oracle Siebel, OBIEE, IBM DataStage, Cognos and Informatica
• Shell scripting
• Windows scripting
• Ssh
• Secure file transfers (FTP, SFTP, etc.)

Major Responsibility Areas:

• Provide operational support of all revenue generating and business enabling IT systems.
• Create and modify automated batch streams for all OLG production batch processes
• Raise scheduling requests for enhancements and modifications to batch streams supported
• Identify and implement processes and solutions to increase the overall efficiency of the batch streams
• Develop and modify scripts to be executed in the batch stream
• Provide support assistance for production incidents arising from batch stream
• Along with the DCNO Sr. Manager, will be responsible for the reviews and approvals of the Operations Acceptance Package (OAP).
• Assist in maintenance and creation of documentation used by other support resources
• Gather and document batch requirements and business SLAs
• Design, document and build oversight of batch requirements to ensure all business objectives and SLAs are met.
• Build and validate job flows, calendar requirements, and scheduling criteria
• Ensure operational processes are documented and transitioned to support staff
• Develop and transition scheduling standards and procedures (e.g. production release procedures) to support staff
• Develop and train a backup resource to this role.
• Ensure that Data Centre & Network Operations remains informed by collaborating with the business and other IT units on day-to-day operational issues.
• Ensure that all production documentation is controlled and updated on regular bases.
• Provide input to the IDS strategic and technology plan
• Ensure that the team adheres to all key operational CobiT processes.
• Contributes to projects directly affecting the Data Centre and Network Operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• University Degree or College Diploma in Computer Studies or equivalent
• 5-7 years progressive experience in medium to large IT environment including
• 3 years experience with automated scheduling packages and procedures.
• Minimum 2 years of project experience
• Minimum 1 year leading a team
• Internally driven to provide outstanding service to stakeholders
• The ability to deliver on tight time frames
• The ability to work well under pressure
• The ability to work on multiple tasks/projects and technologies in parallel
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong commitment to completion and on time delivery of tasks/projects assigned
• Ability to write shell scripts would be desirable however not essential
• ITIL Certification is desirable but not essential

Operations Specialist must have the working knowledge of the following technical skills;

- Computer Hardware/ Software understanding

- Remedy
- Websphere, J2EE, Data Warehousing, IBM Datastage
- DB2, SQL Databases, MSSQL, Sybase

- UPS, PDU's, Diesel Generator's, A/C Units, Cabling requirements, BAS systems
- TCP/IP suite of protocols, routing, switching and DNS network principles and applications.
