Description:

The Technology Office, in collaboration with the Manulife Divisions, provides leadership for Global IS technologies and initiatives. This includes the establishment and deployment of common IS frameworks and platforms which align to the Manulife global business strategy. The Technology Office facilitates an open and collaborative environment that continuously evolves to improve the use of technology to meet Manulife’s business strategies. The office oversees global strategic and tactical initiatives by collaborating with the Divisional Technology Office teams which ultimately drive common standards, methods, tools and infrastructure and mitigate risk.



The Customer Centricity Practice is recruiting an experienced and highly motivated professional to join the team as a Technical Domain Architect. The individual will work with the Architecture team and Subject Matter Experts across divisions to establish common strategies, platforms, standards, architectures and roadmaps for Manulife.



The role will include the regular evaluation of business strategies and technical capabilities. In addition, Technical Domain Architects will define a supporting enterprise architecture framework which will include system reference architecture documents, strategic roadmaps, and the evaluation of current and future systems, and application platforms.



To be successful in the role, the candidate will possess not only deep expertise in their particular field, but also superior relationship management, coaching and mentoring skills.



General Accountabilities



· Develop and foster relationships with the divisions and business unit subject matter experts

· Develop and own global standards and reference architectures with divisional nuances and / or levels of maturity

· Coach, mentor and support system development teams in implementing reference architectures and standards

· Mentor members of the system development teams, focusing on published standards, reference architectures and roadmaps

· Communicate the standards, reference architectures, and roadmaps to senior management and development teams through presentations, training and other appropriate means and forums

· Review and monitor projects for compliance with the reference architecture and standards

· Actively participate in appropriate Enterprise Architecture governance bodies

· Keep abreast of leading changes in their field of expertise and evaluate for impact on strategic roadmaps and applicability for adoption/obsolescence

· Evaluate emerging technologies within area of expertise

· Participate in the evaluation of emerging technologies as a participant in the ETR framework to identify and introduce new technologies that address the required capabilities

· Assist in development of technical design and physical architectures; emphasizing reuse and integration opportunities

· Working with Global Information Risk Management, ensure that risks are appropriately identified, prioritized and mitigated to levels acceptable to management.

· Collaborate effectively with regional IS groups in Canada, US and Asia

· Provide global oversight for strategic and tactical initiatives so-as-to maintain alignment with global standards, reference architectures and roadmaps

· Foster development of business solutions to accommodate strategic business opportunities

· CRM, web, mobile, social business or customer correspondence and other domain related technologies





Qualifications:


General Requirements



· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent IT experience

· 7+ years progressive relevant experience in a large, multinational organization; financial services or insurance industry experience preferred

· 5+ years of experience in the design and development of cross-functional, complex information systems.

· Highly effective influence, negotiation and collaboration skills with the ability to work across the global enterprise

· Ability to foster and build relationships, engage and influence others, work with diverse internal, global business units and global network providers/outsourcers

· Strong written, and oral communication skills, ability to present and explain technical information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others and gains understanding at all levels

· Strong interpersonal skill in areas such as teamwork, facilitation and negotiation

· Ability to quickly comprehend new technologies and assess the impact and potential value for the organization

· Strong planning and organization skills

· Innovative problem solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex project issues

· Able to balance tactical needs with strategic objectives

· Flexible and adaptable and able to embrace change

· Flexibility to accommodate global project schedules, which may include off-hours conference call and occasional travel as required

· Experience with one or more SDLC methodology

· Knowledge of financial models and budgeting; ability to determine complete set of costs of technology and appropriate cost allocation methodologies

· Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools

· Well rounded understanding of architecture, operations and business processes

· Excellent problem solving / analytical skills and knowledge of analytical tools


Domain-Specific Requirements

· Demonstrated experience with CRM, Customer Correspondence, Social Business, Web or Mobile technologies and architectures



Preferred:

· Experience working with geographically distributed and culturally diverse work-groups

· Experience with standard architecture methodologies such as TOGAF or Zachmann

· Experience as a technical architect
